The aesthetician guides the light from the flash lamp over the treatment area.
The unique Ellipse I2PL system carefully filters the light in two ways to ensure that only light with the correct characteristics (wavelengths) is allowed to reach your skin. This light is absorbed by the haemoglobin (red pigment in the blood) which supplies the sebaceous gland.
The haemoglobin is heated up causing a minor injury to the sebaceous gland which in turn slows down the production of oil that causes acne.
Did you know that IPL can be used to reduce hair, eliminate sun damage, remove thread veins and reduce wrinkles?
Those that have permanent acne can be treated by using this technique.
Best results are seen on inflammatory acne which can be described as the red aching, raised pimples. Treatment is most efficient in lighter to medium skin colours that are not sun tanned
Treatment usually takes about 25 minutes but it may be 35 minutes including consultation.
The level of pain we can bear varies between individuals. Most would describe the feeling as a warming feeling. Lighter skins will tend to feel less pain.
No anaesthetic is required. You may see redness appear after treatment and if you have sun damaged skin some pigmentation marks may darken and eventually disappear.
No anaesthetic is required as the pain is not severe.
It is very important to avoid the sun, sun beds and tanning products 30 days before, during and 30 days after treatment.
We do advise you to have an exfoliating facial before the treatment followed by the use of use adapalene (which is normally prescribed to you by your doctor) three weeks prior to treatment.
After the course of treatments we recommend you use an SPF 25 or SPF 30 sunscreen and four weeks later you should finish with a final exfoliating treatment such as our medical microdermabrasion or Agera Rx skin peel.
How many treatments do I need?
A typical course would include four treatments at three weekly intervals.
